Sunday walking street market Chiang Mai

Each Sunday evening in Chiang Mai there is the famous walking street markets.

"The Sunday market (or Walking Street) is a large market located right in the centre of the old walled city area of Chiang Mai. Starting at the Tha Phae Gate at one end the Sunday Market extends for roughly 1km ( it goes for more than that I am certain!) down the full length of Ratchadamnoen Road......"..( Lonely planet)

We went at 4pm when some stalls were still setting up but it was in full swing pretty soon after that.

Andrew buying his much loved musical instruments.

Fresh fruit smoothies.

watermelon juice.

Aside from eating dinner in the grounds of a Wat the highlight for me was walking on a flat closed off road! We did not have to dodge any type of vehicle or uneven ground.

The whole vibe was fun and relaxed. There was such a diverse crowd and it was fun to people watch while we had a family foot massage. There were many street entertainers and it really started to get busy as the sun went down.

I found it really worthwhile going if not to go overboard with shopping (could be done easily) but just to be in amongst it all!
